My first year, I had no idea any of this existed. I worked the whole year as a freelancer without ever applying for the grants or allowances I was entitled to, and by the time I figured it out, I'd already missed out on over €10,000 in free money. My studio was €1100 a month and I felt like I was drowning in rent as a first-year. Now I get €295 back through rental allowance, and since I started working at a fast food chain, I bring in €1500 a month total, plenty to stop asking my parents for money.
It felt awful knowing my parents were paying for everything when I knew they couldn't really afford it, so I stopped going out with friends just to save money on their behalf. Now, as a second-year, I make around €1250 a month on my own, and I don't feel guilty anymore.
I genuinely thought working while studying medicine-adjacent courses was impossible. I'm 19, working 16–20 hours a week, still pulling good grades in a demanding program, and earning about €1600 a month. I was wrong about all of it.

What's the difference between Independent and Hands-On?
Independent gives you the full course, calls every 2 weeks, and community for six months. Hands-On adds four scheduled 1:1 calls and hands-on help finding job openings for you, on top of everything in Independent.
How much time per week does it take?
Setting everything up (your bank account, ID, insurance, CV, and job applications) takes most students around 20–30 hours total, spread across the first few weeks. After that, it's just the hours you choose to work, typically 5–10 hours a week.
